The new project is penned by Jeroen Scholten van Aschat and the director himself, who scooped a Golden Calf for Best Screenplay for their work on De Libi last year. In the official press release published by the Los Gatos-based streaming giant, the film has been described as a “fast-paced crime flick with comedic elements about the contemporary obsession with status and success”. It will tell the story of Richie Rich and his journey to becoming the greatest hip-hop artist in the Netherlands. One evening he is violently mugged by a group of teenagers and loses his most prized possession: an expensive watch. When images of the humiliating robbery go viral, Richie's hard-earned reputation is damaged. Will Richie manage to restore his image, or will this be the end of his career?

Speaking about his new endeavour, director El-Hamus said: “It is a great honour as young filmmakers to have the opportunity to create the first Dutch Netflix film. The collaboration with Netflix gives us the opportunity to make a film for a bigger and global audience.” Meanwhile, co-writer Scholten van Aschat explained: “The movie examines the struggle between who you are and who you want to be in a world where your online identity is all-important. Everyone seems to be burdened by a chronic recognition disorder.” Finally, Fiction Valley's creative director and producer Annemieke van Vliet added: “I am incredibly proud that Netflix has chosen to collaborate with Fiction Valley to make its first Dutch feature film. We look forward to working together.”

The film's release date and main cast are yet to be announced.
