Three projects have been accepted during the third 2019 session of the CNC’s first advance on receipts committee. Standing out among them is Andreas Fontana’s Azor, a predominantly Swiss production handled by Alina film with French partners Local Films (Nicolas Brevière) contributing up to 30%. Shooting will begin on 11 November in Argentina. The cast includes Belgian actor of Italian origins Fabrizio Rongione (familiar from the films of the Dardenne brothers, winning the 2015 Magritte Award for Best Actor for their film Two Days, One Night [+lee también:

). Written by the Swiss director (who made a name for himself with the short films Cotonov Vanished and Pedro M, 1981) in collaboration with Mariano Llinas, the script centres on Yvan De Wiel, a private banker from Geneva travelling to Argentina during the dictatorship to replace his associate, who disappeared overnight and is the subject of the most worrying rumours. Between quiet lounges, pools and gardens under surveillance, a remote duel between the two bankers takes shape — men who, though they use different methods, are both accomplices in a discreet and ruthless form of colonialism…

Azor will be shot in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata. It was selected at the Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum of the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2016 and will benefit from the support of Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), Cinéforom and the Loterie Romande.

An advance on receipts from the CNC will also go to Philippe Petit’s debut feature project, Vae Victis, with production assured by Frédéric Dubreuil for Envie de Tempête Productions. Written by the director together with Marcia Romano and Laurette Polmanss, the script focuses on Max, who lives in Rome with his wife and child. He fights for the existence of his job as a landscaper and tries to impose his vision in the public domain. Once again kicked off a project and emotionally fragile, he finds himself roughed up by the demands of life in your forties…

Finally, the CNC will support Camille Ponsin’s documentary feature debut project La vieille dame et les visiteurs, staged by Minima Productions.
