ficha de la película] by Viera Čákányová have split the Docu Talent Award after being judged the best of the ten projects taking part in Ji.hlava IDFF's Docu Talents from the East, a presentation of ten outstanding documentary projects from Central and Eastern Europe scheduled for release from August 2019 through to July 2020, which took place on Sunday as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival's CineLink Industry Days.

The award is provided in cooperation with Current Time TV, and the total of $5,000 (€4,468) was divided up, with $3,000 going to Kix and $2,000 to Frem. The decision was made by the jury composed of Cinéma du Réel director Catherine Bizern, Israeli producer Noemi Schory, Sundance programmer Harry Vaughn, Natalia Arshavskaya from Current Time TV, and Jarmila Outratová, representing the organiser of the programme – Ji.hlava IDFF.

Kix is a story about Sanyi, a troubled street boy, as he grows from eight to 18 years old. Over the course of a decade, he turns from a mischievous youth into a public enemy. The film shows the adventures and struggles of the young boy as he hops, skips and jumps his way through the minefield of grown-up society. A co-production between Hungary's Elf Pictures, Croatia's Eclectica and Germany's Basis Berlin Filmproduktion, the film looks at the challenges of existence in the urban environments of today’s Europe. The premiere is expected in November this year.

Frem is a word that does not mean anything; it’s a word that just reminds you of something, its closest etymological connotation being the Old English word “fremd”, meaning foreign. As we try to create a universal form of artificial intelligence, we cannot escape anthropomorphic thinking, since we cannot go beyond the limits of our own brains. The film Frem is an attempt to “go beyond” these limits – an attempt to make a non-anthropomorphic film, an audiovisual requiem for the Homo sapiens species. A co-production between the Czech Republic's Hypermarket Film and Slovakia's Punkchart Films, Frem is also expected to have its world premiere in November.
