Adding yet another accolade to the list of awards it has won so far (after Best World Documentary at Busan, a Special Prize at the International TRT Documentary Awards and the SOS-Kinderdörfer Award at DOK.Fest Munich), Joost Vandeburg's Bruce Lee and the Outlaw [+lee también:

has been crowned at the first edition of IceDocs, which took place in the town of Akranes from 17-21 July. The ceremony itself was held on the evening of Saturday 20 June. Honeyland [+lee también:

, directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov, was also singled out by the jury, consisting of Icelandic filmmaker-editor Anna Þóra Steinþórsdóttir, deputy artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival Diane Henderson, and Irish film critic Jessica Kiang. It thus picked up a Special Mention.

The short and mid-length jury (comprising filmmaker and Northern Wave Film Festival founder Dögg Mósesdóttir, director of Makedox Film Festival Petrula Veljanovska and Estonian film critic Tristan Priimägi) also handed out their awards. All Inclusive, directed by Swiss filmmaker Corina Schwingruber Ilić, was awarded Best Short, while Haunted, a Danish-Norwegian co-production directed by Christian Einshøj, triumphed in the mid-length competition.

The festival saw seven films taking part in the main, features competition and five in the mid-length one, while six shorts went head to head. Thirteen handpicked features revolving around social issues were shown in the non-competitive official selection, while nine shorts were also screened out of competition. Furthermore, the audience was able to see a midnight screening of Almost Fashionable - A Film about Travis by Fran Healy and the "hangover screening" of Boris Mitić's In Praise of Nothing [+lee también:

. The festival also had a special family programme consisting of three film blocks and two special events, a talents workshop, and a number of side events like parties and other gatherings. In addition, Icelandic experimental and documentary filmmaker Þorgeir Þorgeirsson was honoured with a retrospective.

Despite being a completely new event that is still striving to be fully embraced by the local audience, the future of IceDocs should not be in any doubt, thanks to some excellent programming, perfect organisation and strong, ecologically minded ethics. Also, the exoticism of the place and time (the polar white nights) is also a considerable factor when it comes to attracting a line-up of international guests.
