, the mini-series comprising 8 episodes and produced by Italian outfit Wildside for HBO and Sky. Marking Luca Guadagnino’s TV debut, the series will be set on the American NATO base Casama Ederle in Vicenza. But as the team were unable to film on the real base, the main set was installed on the San Siro base in Bagnoli di Sopra in the province of Padua. A missile base for the Italian Air Force and NATO between 1959 and 2008, the compound has since been returned to the Paduan municipality and was used, until recently, as a centre for immigrants. Guadagnino will be filming in the Veneto region for 16 weeks, starting 29 July.

alongside Paolo Giordano and Francesca Manieri, the series follows the mixed fortunes of two adolescents, Fraser Wilson and Caitlin Harper, as explained by Guadagnino during the Cannes Film Festival. Fraser is a young and introverted New Yorker who lives with his family on the Italian military base, where he soon gets to hang out with a group of kids his own age. Caitlin, on the other hand, is a resourceful girl who has adapted well to life on the base, learning how to hunt, and how to helm her father’s fishing boat. When the two fourteen-year-olds meet, a close and complex friendship is formed. Their group of teenage friends believe Fraser and Caitlin are a couple, but the boy is grappling with confused feelings over his identity, and an innocent, romantic connection soon develops between Fraser and an older soldier called Jason.
