ficha de la película] by Juan José Lozano (director of several documentaries including Unwanted Witness in 2008) and Zoltan Horvath (animation filmmaker with a number of short films to his name, including Nosferatu Tango, honoured at Clermont-Ferrand and winner of the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics Award in 2002) would soon be entering into production.

Written by Juan José Lozano (who has dual Swiss and Colombian nationality) and Frenchman Antoine Germa, the story begins on 1 March 2008 when Commander Raul Reyes, second in command of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc), dies in the jungle amidst a tonne of bombs dropped by the CIA and the Colombian army. Along with his body, the soldiers also remove his computers: ten years-worth of correspondence belonging to this man who was in charge of negotiations for the release of around a hundred hostages (with Ingrid Betancourt foremost among these) and who served as head of foreign affairs for the oldest communist guerrilla group in the world. It’s an extraordinary resource/film which sees politicians, journalists, weapons dealers, diplomats, hitmen, family members and even his children all crossing paths. The film will plunge us into the psyche of this man who ruled the FARC guerrillas with an iron fist as their revolutionary utopia slowly turned into a nightmare.

Produced by Marc Irmer for the French firm Dolce Vita Films and by Anne Deluz for Swiss outfit Intermezzo Films, Red Jungle is co-produced by Nadasdy Film and Tchack. Pre-purchased by TSR-SSR, the full-length film has received support from Pictanovo, the CNC (via an advance on receipts and the CNC fund for visual or sound creations), the FOC, Cineforom, the SSA and Suissimage. The film is due to be completed in April 2021. French distribution will be headed up by New Story and worldwide sales by Urban Distribution International.

Dolce Vita Films is attending a number of Annecy Network events this week with another animated title tucked under its arm: Chicken for Linda ! by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach (whose work The Girl Without Hands [+lee también:

ficha de la película] was nominated for the Best Animated Film César in 2017). Selected to participate in the pitches organised by Annecy’s Mifa (Marché international du film d’animation) in 2018 and by Cartoon Movie this year, this project is currently in the process of fundraising, having already secured the support of Gebeka Films, who will take charge of French distribution, as well as that of the CNC and the French Nouvelle Aquitaine Region in the form of film development grants. Equally noteworthy is the production partner of the film, Miyu Productions, who are based in Angoulême and Paris.

Starring, among others, Sami Bouajila and Najla Ben Abdallah, the film charts the misadventures of a holiday-making family who find themselves ambushed by an armed group as they travel through southern Tunisia… Produced with Tunisian firm Cinetelefilms, this feature film is sold by Jour2Fête.
