Written by Philippe Garrel and his usual partners in crime, Jean-Claude Carrière and Arlette Langmann, the film recounts a young man’s first female conquests and the love he feels for his father. It’s the story of a provincial youngster who travels up to Paris to sit an entrance exam for a “grande école”. His path crosses that of a young woman and they strike up a short-lived relationship. When he returns home to his father, the young man reconnects with an old girlfriend. They get back together, and he has just decided to move in with her when the young woman from Paris turns up. He makes his excuses and not long afterwards, the young woman from the provinces falls pregnant. Having passed his entrance exam, the young man leaves for Paris to begin his studies and wipes his hands of the pregnant young woman. She goes to see the young man’s father and tells him everything. The latter wants to get involved but, in the meantime, the young man has fallen in love with a third young woman, in Paris, and they are now living together…

Shooting on this feature film, which is supported by Pictanovo and the OFC among others, will run between 2 April and 24 May, with Swiss national Renato Berta (whose specialism has earned him three nominations at the Cesars and two at the David di Donatello Awards, and who was also on board in Philippe Garrel’s last two feature films) in charge of cinematography. Distribution in France will come courtesy of Ad Vitam while international sales will be managed by Wild Bunch.
