). Gainsbourg previously played a lead role opposite Attal in his first two features as a director, and this new film incidentally wraps up a sort of trilogy, even though this time it is an adaptation of the novel My Dog Stupid by US author John Fante, unlike My Wife Is an Actress and … And They Lived Happily Ever After, both of which were original screenplays.

The story, written by Attal himself, revolves around 50-year-old Henri, who is in the midst of a mid-life crisis. And who are the people responsible for his failures, his ailing sex drive and his backache? His wife and four children, of course! Just at the critical moment when he is taking stock of his life, of all the women he will never ever have again, and of all the cars he’ll never drive, an enormous, bad-mannered and overenthusiastic dog decides to move into his house, much to his delight, but to the great displeasure of the rest of his family – and especially his wife Cécile, whose unconditional love begins to falter.

Produced by Vincent Roget for Same Player, Georges Kern for Good Time Production and Florian Genetet-Morel for Montauk Films, My Stupid Dog is being co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and StudioCanal (which will oversee the French distribution from 30 October 2019 and the international sales). Having also been pre-purchased by Canal+Ciné+ and C8, the feature was filmed over a nine-week period in Biarritz and Paris.
