Penned in its entirety by the director himself, the script focuses on Dave Connolly (Tristan Heanue), a man who begrudgingly follows in his late father’s footsteps by joining the Garda Síochána, the Irish police force. His work and his uprightness are placed in jeopardy when his ex-convict brother Joe (Graham Earley) bursts back into his life desperately seeking help. Against his better judgement, Dave starts to help him, but after an unexpected twist of fate, his loyalty to Joe is called into question as he falls in love with Amia McNamara (Gemma-Leah Devereux), the victim of his brother’s previous crime. Supporting characters are portrayed by John ConnorsRyan Lincoln and Ally Ni Chiarain

Broken Law is being produced by Paddy Slattery for Clonbulloge-based True Line Films and Simon Doyle for Dublin-based Failsafe Films, with Shane Ryan serving as an executive producer. The film is independently financed, and part of its budget has been raised thanks to a crowdfunding campaign initiated on the Indiegogo platform. The movie’s cinematography is entrusted to Narayan van Maele, costume design to Gwen Jeffares-Hourie and editing to John Desay

The post-production phase is set to commence in September, with the intention of promoting Broken Law’s international festival and theatrical distribution from 2019 onwards.
