A big family gatheres around their grandfather’s 91st birthday,Ioan Codlea which lives in remote mountain village. Detached, yet in the centre of the events he observes his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with warmth and resignation.
During the week they all come together to both celebrate their granfather and to built his new grave and cross, all this under his supervision. He tells them about marriage, the women he loved, communists, solitude and time, mountains, wild deers and bears, about life and death. At times they listen to his tales, other times they cover his voice with their own.
