together with the actors.
Conceived and filmed as a mini-series of four one-and-a-half hour episodes, the film produced in Italy in 2002 by Bi Bi Film and Rai Cinema, but screened only in 2003 at the Cannes Festival, was shown as one six-hour work. Not only The Best of Youth won over the critics, but it was also awarded with the top prize in the "Un certain regard" section.
The film is the story of an Italian family stretching over the period from the end of the 1960s to the present day. The characters, from the father, to the mother and the sons, as the actors say, have the same nature, but will eventually take different paths. Their stories unfold against the background of some of the historic landmarks of recent Italian history: They show forty years of history of Italy, and describe a generation that changes through the 60's and 70's.
The actors explain that the experience was extremely positive; they developed their characters during the shooting guided and encouraged by the director. They gave their best interpretation for which they obtained several prizes.
Directed by Marco Tullio Giordana, the film features Luigi Lo Cascio, Adriana Asti, Sonia Bergamasco, Maya Sansa, Fabrizio Gifuni, Jasmine Trinca, Alessio Boni and Camilla Filippi.
