is the fifth feature by Valette, who made two films in the United States (One Missed Call and Hybrid). His experience in the US encouraged him to explore action film.

Very physical and quite violent, The Prey is, however, not the film lead actor Albert Dupontel (Cash Truck) had hoped for entirely. He wanted a more radical movie, but a large part of the €8.3m used to finance the film came from television. Canal + and especially TF1, the most-watched terrestrial channel in France, had specific demands for the screenplay. The film was fine-tuned to appeal to as wide an audience as possible whilst remaining true to the tastes of the director, who wanted to distance himself from EuropaCorp productions by injecting much more soul into his film.

The Prey will be sold at the Cannes Film Market, but pre-sales have already been clinched with Germany, where the film will be released theatrically. Studio Canal has confirmed that the option for a US remake has been negotiated.

The Prey is being released in France and Belgium on April 13, 2011.
