- Film soundtracks feature at the Flanders Festival that opens today with Hop directed by Dominique Standaert

Hop, the DV feature directed by Dominique Standaert, will open the 29th edition of the Flanders Film Festival today (8 October). The event that is specialised in film soundtracks takes place in the city of Gand and scores from all over the world will be listened to and evaluated by a jury presided over by the future director of the Paris Opera, Gérard Mortier. The soundtracks in competition include Carnages, a French (Balthazar Productions), Belgian (Need Productions), Spanish (Oasis) and Swiss (PCT) co-production directed by Delphine Gleize. Carnages is the story of a group of people who are seriously distressed by the death of a bull, and the story is set in three European cities, Paris, Brussels and Madrid.
The Flanders’ programme includes a good number of tributes as well as a seminar for professionals in the film and music sector who will be called on to describe the current state of affairs in their industry and suggest ideas for the immediate future.
12 October has been designated Flemish Film Day is when industry professionals will meet for the presentation of a new DVD produced by the Flemish Film Library and the Flemish community, entitled News from Flemish Cinema. The festival will close on 19 October with the gala awards presentation of the World Soundtrack Awards.
