New programmes at the Film Museum

by

Alexander Horwath, the director of the Austrian Film Museum announced an ambitious three-part renovation programme. The first phase is scheduled for completion by November 2002 and consists of a major technical overhall of the Albertina Cinema with the introduction of new film screening technology.
From 9 to 31 October, the Votiv Cinema will host the traditional Viennale retrospective dedicated this year to French director, Jacques Rivette. The event includes opportunities to meet with some of his closest collaborators. Forthcoming retrospectives are planned for David Cronenberg, India’s Bollywood, Robert Bresson and Romuald Karmakar. In November and December will see a number of events that fall mid-way between art and cinema, like the screening of Mathew Barney’s Cremaster – Cycle; 12 films on the 12th birthday of “Sixpack Film” and a review of Dietmat Brehm’s body of work.
The Film Museum will be an active partner in a number of important film restoration projects including the reconstruction of the audio balance of Sergej Eisenstein’s Panzerkreuzer Potemkin, and the refurbishment of negative material from Wilhelm Murnau’s Tabu.
In the future, the Film Museum of Austria will participate in educational programmes for teachers and students, the first of which is a 3-day event that will take place during Cined@ys , organised by the European Commission in November.
