Princess crowned at Baltic Event

The Finnish documentary film project Princess by Arto Halonen (Shadow of the Holy Book [+see also:

) won the award for Most Marketable Project at the Baltic Event Market in Tallinn, which ended on December 3.

Princess tells the true story of Anna Lappalainen, a renowned patient of the Kellokoski psychiatric hospital in Finland. Diagnosed as a manic-depressive with symptoms of schizophrenia, she claims to be a princess and refuses to be called by her own name. The hospital eventually becomes the princess’ castle, where Anna holds court, bringing joy and healing to her surroundings.

The project, produced by Art Films Production for an estimated budget of €1.5m, has already received financial backing from broadcaster MTV3 and theatrical distributor Sandrew Metronome Finland.

Another award was presented for the first time by trade publication Screen International, to the Ukrainian/Russian co-production Fuga Mortis by Kirill Mikhanovsky. The Screen International Award consists of free exposure in the magazine during the lifetime of the project.

The two Cannes Market Producers Network Awards, consisting of free admission to the Cannes industry event, were given to Russian producer Anna Katchko, who presented the project Illuminated Night, and Estonian producer Artur Talvik for Money First.

Approximately 15 % more meetings were organized at this year’s Baltic Event over previous years.
