Õunpuuu and Bartas at Baltic Event

Two of the Baltic region’s top directors, Estonia’s Veiko Õunpuuu and Lithuania’s Sharunas Bartas, will unveil clips of their latest films as part of the seventh Baltic Event (November 30-December 03), an increasingly popular market held parallel to the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where new projects from the region are screened and discussed by some 200 film professionals.

The Temptation of St Tony, the new drama by Õunpuuu (Autumn Ball [+see also:

), is one of 13 new Baltic works in progress at the Baltic Event's Coming Soon programme. The drama, currently wrapping its shoot in Estonia, was co-produced by Homeless Bob Production (Estonia), with Sweden (Atmo) and Finland (Bronson Club).

Bartas’ upcoming drama Neither Before Nor After, now in production, will be looking for Baltic or Polish co-producers and distributors. The €1.5m film is produced by Bartas’ company Studio Kinema, in co-production with France’s Les Productions Lazennec.

Another 12 brand new projects from the Baltics, Scandinavia, Central/Eastern Europe and Russia will be pitched to potential co-financiers by their producers and/or filmmakers between today and tomorrow.

 by first-time Swedish director Amanda Adolfsson, co-produced by Breidablick Film with Germany’s Wüste Films; Princess (Art Films, Finland), the new documentary by the established Arto Halonen ( Shadow of the Holy Book [+see also:

); Money First (Eetriüksus, Estonia) by Jaak Kilmi, winner of a Special Jury Prize in Moscow for his 2005 feature Revolution of Pigs; and The Enthusiast (Ego Media, Latvia), a psychological drama by the award-winning Viesturs Kairiss (The Dark Deer).

The Baltic Event’s co-production market has proven very useful for producers over the last three years. Among the 12 projects presented last year, one is completed, five are in various stages of production and six are in development.
