Deneuve, Croze and Hands embroiled in family secret in La Cuisine
The final leg of preparations is underway before lensing begins on September 16 in the South-West town of Arcachon on Julie Lopes Curval’s third feature La Cuisine (“The Kitchen”).

The film’s cast features three high calibre actresses, Catherine Deneuve, Marina Hands (2007 César for Lady Chatterley [+see also:

Written by the director and Sophie Hiet, the story centres on a single independent woman living in Canada, Audrey (Hands). When Audrey finds out she is pregnant, she visits her parents in the small town where she spent her childhood. There she discovers the trails of the hidden past of her grandmother (Croze) who abandoned her home in the 50s to never return. Eager to find out more, Audrey decides to investigate, her investigation ending in the revelation of a well-kept secret by her own mother (Deneuve).
La Cuisine is produced by Sombrero Films, a long-time partner of the director, and has secured a budget of about €4.2m which includes a co-production with France 3 Cinéma and pre-sales from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma. A 90% French and 10% Canadian co-production, the film will be shot in Arcachon until October 23. Bac Films will handle French release and international sales.
Sombrero Films wrapped up filming last Saturday on Hubert Gillet’s Dans tes bras (“In Your Arms”), due for theatrical release in summer 2009 through Haut et Court. Starring Michèle Laroque, Martin Loizillon, Lola Naymark and Catherine Mouchet, Gillet’s feature debut follows the very complicated reunion of a teenager adopted at a young age and her biological mother.
The production outfit, headed by Alain Benguigui and Thomas Verhaeghe, is also working on the post-production of David Morley’s horror film Mutants, a debut feature sold by TF1 International and scheduled for release through CTV International at the end of 2008.
