Souled Out begins Stoke shoot
Irish director Shimmy Marcus (Headrush, Aiden Walsh: Master of the Universe) has begun principal photography in Stoke on Trent for his new feature Souled Out. The film stars IFTA-winning actor Pat Shortt (Garage [+see also:

Other stars include BAFTA award winner Martin Compston (Red Road [+see also:

film profile]), Alfie Allen (Atonement), Craig Parkinson (Control) and Nichola Burley (Donkey Punch).
Written by Jeff Williams, the film is a coming of age love story between two teenagers set during the Northern Soul movement of 1974. Shortt plays an Irish van driver who befriends the lovers and ends up in a love story of his own.
The film will feature original music by The Dap Kings, Grammy Award-winners Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson’s band, along with classics from the nightclub The Wigan Casino - the home of Northern Soul.
Ipso Facto Films’ Christine Alderson and Natasha Carlish of Dreamfinder Productions are producing. Funding is from Screen West Midlands, supported by Northern Film and Media.

Shimmy and the team have assembled an amazing cast and we feel very confident about the film’s prospects.”
The film has been in development since 2004 and was supposed to shoot in Ireland in 2006, but the financing fell through, causing an eventual relocation to the UK.
The shoot will last for five weeks. Moviehouse will handle international sales and Soda Pictures has acquired UK distribution.
