by Austrian director Michael Haneke (distributed by X Verleih) – German title Esperanza (“Hope”) is hitting screens.

This debut feature by Hungarian-born director Zsolt Bács is a riotous dramatic comedy reminiscent of the work of Kusturica, Kaurismäki and Jeunet. The film centres on a group of travellers who, on New Year’s Eve, miss the last ferry to Copenhagen and climb on board a funny little tub boat steered by a strange crew.

Produced by Holger Franke and Wolf Jakoby for Berlin-based ZSO Erste Filmproduktion GmbH & Co.KG, Esperanza stars Boris Aljinović, Anna Thalbach and Frank Giering. The film is being released by Filmlichter.
