Three Monkeys heads Pyramide line-up

by

French international sales company Pyramide are competition regulars at the Cannes Film Festival, and this year they’ll be hoping for success with Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Three Monkeys, which will vie for the Palme d’Or.

Made for €1.8m, the new work by the Turkish director – who has previously won honours at Cannes (Grand Jury Prize and Best Actor Award in 2003; in competition in 2006) – was co-produced by Turkey (65% investment), France (25 % - Pyramide) and Italy (10% - Bim Distribuzione). The film also received €120,000 in backing from the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC), from the foreign-language film fund.

The slate also includes several titles in post-production: Anne Fontaine’s Monaco, starring Fabrice Luchini and Roschdy Zem (see news); Ilian Duran Cohen’s Le plaisir de chanter (“The Joy of Singing”); and Karin Albou’s Le chant des mariés (“The Song of the Newlyweds”). Other films include forthcoming features by Catherine Corsini (Partir - set for release in the second half of 2009) and Bruno Dumont, who hopes to unveil Hadewijch at Cannes next year.
