Cary Fitzgerald’s High Point Films has acquired international rights for Irish/German co-production The Race, currently in pre-production. German filmmaker André F Nebe, who had earlier made the award-winning short Tricky Fingers, will direct the film.

), the film focuses on the journey of an 11-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a race car driver and gets an opportunity to prove her mettle in a local go-cart race.

Fitzgerald said, “The Race is a thoroughly heart-warming, universal story in the tradition of Billy Elliot, but with its own distinctive pulse, about how self belief and dedication can triumph against even the most seemingly insurmountable odds. With a combination of Grand Pictures’ great talent as producers, an exciting new director and a terrific script, this bears all the hallmarks of a real Grand Prix winner!”

“From first draft to now we’ve developed an excellent dialogue with High Point, who have shown a tremendous amount of invaluable support and belief in the project and demonstrate a genuine understanding of how to handle films internationally,” added Garland.

In addition to representing The Race, High Point will also be screening Kings, Nothing to Lose and Skin [+see also:
