Child’s play at Hamburg

) today opens the 5th Hamburg Children’s Film Festival, which is being held at the UFA-Palast Grindel until October 4.

Twelve titles will be presented in competition, the favourite of which will be awarded the Michel of the Year by a children’s jury. The films will also vie for the Audience Award.

Three films will be exclusively screened out of competition: Florian Baxmeyer’s The Three Investigators, Ulrike Grote’s latest instalment of televised series Krimi.de and Israeli director Gilad Reshef’s documentary Hart am Wind, which is making its world premiere at the event.

The competition hosts a bundle of European titles, with Finland particularly well represented and with Nanna Huolman’s Finnish/Swedish Kid opening the section.

Other European entries include: German animated film Hayo Freitag’s Die drei Räuber, featuring the voice of Katharina Thalbach; Dutch film XTC Just Don't Do It, in which Maria Peters directs a charming daydreamer who finds herself in an awkward position; Hoppet [+see also:

by Norwegian director Petter Naess; Finnish titles Onni von Sopanen by Johanna Vuoksenmaa and Raimo O Niemi’s Suden Arvoitus; as well as Red Like the Sky [+see also:

Each of the films presented will be presented in detail and discussed by the festival’s young public.

As the Hamburg festival is aimed at arousing interest in the young, it will also present film workshops.
