1 Day wins at Montreal

On September 3, the jury of the Montreal World Film Festival awarded its Best Director Prize to Switzerland’s Jacob Berger for his third feature for cinema 1 Day.

Screened as a world premiere at Locarno’s Piazza Grande and produced by Ruth Waldburger (Vega Film), the film stars Bruno Todeschini, Natacha Regnier and Noémie Kocher, the director’s partner and co-scriptwriter on the film.

Son of British writer John Berger, Jacob Berger (1963) started his career as a film critic in the 1980s before going on to study cinema at the University of New York. He has directed several reportages and documentaries for Swiss and French television, as well as two films for the big screen: Les anges (1989) and A Loving Father (2001), starring Gérard and Guillaume Depardieu.
