Scandals and Strass

by

- Vincent Lannoo's latest film, an ironic docudrama about dubious acting schools is finally released in Belgium

A decade after C’est arrivé près de chez vous, Vincent Lannoo’s new film, Strass is about to be released in Belgium. Strass (Glitter), is a sort of documentary about the dubious acting techniques taught in an acting school. Although it was well-received by numerous festivals including Montreal in 2001 and more recently, Angers, Lannoo and his producer, Pierre Lekeux (who also stars in Strass) were forced to wait for over a year before finding a distributor. Produced by Radowsky Films, Strass will be released by Immagine Film Distribution.
The film was made with an extra-low budget (under Euros10,000) and made in DV over a three-week period, Strass is Dogma 95 film number 20. It uses a devastatingly ironic style to stigmatize the film and media industries, and the reality of fiction, Strass exploits the accusations that were levelled at it in its promotional campaign. The film’s release was preceded by a diffamatory Internet campaign that alleged abuse (even sexual) took place during the filming.
