Green Moon and Maestranza launch first collaboration

by

As announced during the latest Berlinale, Antonio Banderas’ new Malaga-based production outfit Green Moon and Seville-based company Maestranza Films, run by Antonio Pérez, have joined efforts in order to encourage film production in Andalusia and to launch and support local technical and artistic talent. The goal is now about to come true with the announced production of Verano en la roca, the first feature film by Cordoba-born director Francisco Javier Gutiérrez, whose short film Brasil was picked up awards at several film festivals.

Chosen from over 100 projects, Verano en la roca was scripted by Juan Velarde, whose writing was influenced by classic thrillers such as Fritz Lang's M (1931) and Charles Laughton's The Night of The Hunter (1955). The story is set 72 hours before the end of the world and follows the choices of the characters in this extreme situation: will they spend their remaining time with their loved ones or use it to fulfil their desires for revenge?

Although the beginning of principal photography has not yet been scheduled, the film will be shot this year and is expected to be ready before next January. The cast, which will be "around 80% Andalusian", is currently being selected.

According to Pérez, "There is a lot of talent and very few opportunities in Andalusia", which is why both Green Moon and Maestranza Films feel "the obligation of taking their chances on them and to support good films outside commercial criteria".

and Malaga 2006 winner Rough Winds by Gerardo Herrero. At last month’s Berlinale Co-production Market, the company presented a new film project, La Roldana, which will be directed by Laura Maña and star Paz Vega.
