From a woman’s point of view

- Presided over by actress, Macha Meril, the Bordeaux event showcases 110 films and is a welcome opportunity for operators in this new market to meet

The programme of the 4th Women’s International Film Festival of Bordeaux (France), scheduled to run from 23-29 September, features 110 films about “women at the heart of cinema”. Eight titles, including the award winning Bend it like Beckham by Gurinder Chandha and and Nowhere in Africa by Caroline Link, will compete for the “Golden Wave” for best film. The other main sections are specialised in short, documentaries and digital films.
Jeanne LaBrune’s C’est le bouquet! starring Sandrine Kiberlain and Jean-Pierre Darroussin will open the festival that has also moved home from Arcachon (site of the first three editions) to Bordeaux.
A tangible sign of the importance to the mainstream film industry of films by, with and about women the the creation of a film market. Given Bordeaux’s geographical proximity to San Sebastian, it is very likely that many distributors will stop off in the French city and visit this festival. The programme also includes tributes to four influential filmmakers: director, Claire Denis, actress Marie-Christine Barrault, agent Marcelline Lenoir and producer Vera Belmont.
