The film world’s disappointment with the licence
The French government’s decision not to increase the television licence fee has disappointed audiovisual industry operators. The increase was requested by the French culture minister. The French filmmakers (writers, directors and producers) guild – ARP – said this decision “damages the French film and audiovisual production sector’s potential”. SACD, the French writers’ and dramatic composers’ association (SACD) joined the protest as did the French directors’ and Audiovisual Producers’ guilds, respectively SRF and USPA.
This latest move comes on the heels of a 3 per cent tax increase on the salaries of entertainment industry workers that was introduced in July and the government’s announced spending cuts indicate troubled times ahead.
