A Man’s Job makes good business

, the new film written and directed by Aleksi Salmenperä (Producing Adults), had an excellent opening weekend (February 24-25) last week.

With 6,673 admissions on 12 screens, it took third place in the Finnish Top Ten and top position of all Finnish films, prompting local distributor Sandrew Metronome Distribution Finland to put an additional five prints into circulation.

The film tells the story of Juha, a married man with three small children, who decides to keep the fact that he got fired a secret. He spends his days at a remote service station thinking about a new way to support his family and provide anti-depressants for his wife.

He soon finds himself completely naked, brushing the hair of a woman he has never met before. He also finds himself earning in two hours what he used to earn in two days at his old job. With the help of his friend Olli, Juha begins to sell his body in earnest.

), was produced by Petri Jokiranta and Tero Kaukomaa for Blind Spot Pictures with support from the Finnish Film Foundation, the Nordic Film & TV Fund and the MEDIA Programme Development scheme.

The film had its world premiere at this year’s Rotterdam Film Festival in the Time & Tide section. “All screenings were packed and the film went down very well”, said Kaukomaa.

After Rotterdam, the film screened at Berlin’s EFM and Blind Spot, who is handling world sales until a sales agent is appointed, sold it to Greece (Seven Films) and started negotiations with Germany.

Salmenperä’s acclaimed directorial debut Producing Adults, also produced by Kaukomaa, was sold to over 15 territories by Celluloid Dreams.
