Directors fight for rights

Over 100 well-known directors have signed an open letter, or "resolution", in which they are up in arms against the reform on authors’ rights, currently under discussion in the Bundestag.

The BVR (Federal Directors Association) believes that promoting profit is damaging the quality and integrity of cinema and television productions. The planned reform will consist of changes and cuts without the agreement of authors, which for BVR is nothing less than expropriation.

The decision by the directors was communicated last week to Chancellor Merkel, as well as to Minister of Culture Bernd Neumann. Brigitte Zypries, Minister of Justice charged with reform, was presented the petition in person at the Ministry by a delegation of directors that included Sherry Hormann, Hark Bohm, Jobst Oetzmann, Marc Rothemund and Tomy Wigand.
