Filmax co-produces Los justos with Mexico

Madrid-based company Filmax is backing Manu Carballo’s directorial debut Los justos (lit. "The Righteous"), principal photography on which begun last week in Mexico.

Los justos is a religious thriller that revolves around Teo, a reporter investigating a series of crimes in which all the victims were born on his same birthday. During the investigation, Teo discovers that, according to the beliefs of one religious sect, there are only 36 righteous men in the world and if they disappear, the world as we know it now would also disappear with them.

"The idea for the script came when a friend of mine recommended a book by Borges to me, where there was a reference to the myth of the ‘36 Righteous Men’, which refers to the 36 righteous people who help redeem the rest of humanity", explained the Spanish director.

Co-produced with Lemon Films (Mexico), the €2m film’s cast of Spanish and Latin American actors includes Diego Martín (The Borgia [+see also:

), Ana Claudia Talancón (The Crime Of The Father Amaro), Antonio Dechent, Goya Toledo and veteran Argentinean star Federico Luppi. The film’s theatrical distribution date has yet to be announced.
