The Legend of Time by Isaki Lacuesta (see interview) was awarded the Spain Film Commission/San Sebastian City Award.

The €12.000 prize – given to the film which, according to the jury, manages to best reflect the urban and socio-cultural values of the regions or cities where it was shot – was accepted by producer Antonio Lobo of Barcelona-based outfit Mallerich Films, in a ceremony that took place in San Sebastian’s City Hall.

Presented in competition at the latest Rotterdam Film Festival, The Legend of Time is a docudrama that follows the lives of a gypsy teenager who is no longer seen as a promising flamenco singer and of a young Japanese women seeking in flamenco a new way to express her deepest emotions. Boundaries between fiction and reality vanish simultaneously as the director successfully captures essential aspects of local musical heritage, which was strongly influenced by legendary singer Camarón de la Isla.

Lacuesta's second feature film was shot in Andalusia and beat out the two other finalists, Gerardo Herrero's Rough Winds (also shot in the Andalusia region) and Ventura Pons' Animales heridos (shot in Barcelona).
