Kung Fu film has world premiere at Toronto

, the first ever Finnish kung fu film combining Finnish and Chinese mythologies will have its world premiere on Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival (September 7-16).

The international co-production between Blind Spot Pictures in Finland, FuWorks in the Netherlands, Film Tower in Estonia and Ming Productions in China is screening in Toronto´s new Vanguard sidebar for "edgy, irreverent, sexy movies... with a youthful zing".

Inspired by the myth and majesty of the Kalevala, Jade Warrior tells the tale of a love-struck hero fighting against the restrictions of modern life and searching for a love beyond time and place. In the course of his journey to be reunited with his love, he re-discovers his true origin, his skills as a warrior, and his unique destiny. The main cast includes Tommi Eronen (Producing Adults), Markku Peltola (The Man Without a Past [+see also:

) and Zhang Jingchu.

International sales are being handled by Paris-based Rezo Films, and major territories sold include Russia (CIS), Greece, Hungary, Poland, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil, as well as the co-production countries (the Nordic countries, the Baltic Republics, Benelux and China). The film will be released in Finland by Sandrew Metronome on October 13.

Also screening in Toronto this week is Aki Kaurismäki’s Lights in the Dusk [+see also:

, which first screened to international audiences last May in official competition at Cannes. Produced by Kaurismäki’s Sputnik Oy, the film has been sold to 25 countries by international sales company The Match Factory.
