Herrero and the invisibility of women

by

Director and producer Gerardo Herrero, the top winner of the latest Malaga Film Festival with Rouge Winds (see news), began shooting his 12th feature film, Una mujer invisible (Lit. "An Invisible Woman").

Despite its title, the film its not an incursion into fantasy, but a reflection on the status of women in current societies, who reach a certain age and seemingly become invisible to others. While the director will have a male perspective on the topic, the film was written by Belén Gopegui, with whom Herrero had already worked on the script of Heroína (the film that won Adriana Azores the Best Actress Award at the 2005 Montreal Film Festival).

María Bouzas (El regalo de Silvia y Sé quién eres) stars as Luísa, "a selfish and complex women, full of contradictions and imperfections", said the director, for whom Bouzas is perfect to the part for "her presence and her changing of tones. She is very good as a common women and can be attractive as well".

Shot in La Coruña, Galicia, a region also currently hosting the principal photography of Antonio Hernández's El menor de los males (see news), Una mujer invisible will have a "lot of movement" thanks to the "veritable ease" provided by the region in shooting in "different locations on the same day", stressed Galician producer Pancho Casal.

Furthermore, the production offers a good opportunity for local crews and actors and the cast includes Galician actors such as Tamar Novas (Best Promising Actor Goya for The Sea Inside), Peopo Suevos, Adolfo Fernández (Talk to Her) and Nuria Gago (Héctor).

Una mujer invisible is being produced by Milú Films, Tornasol Films and Continental Producciones, with the support of TVE, Canal +, the Region of Galician City Hall and TVG. The film is set to première locally in the spring of 2007.
