The National Federation of French Distributors (FNDF) saw a change in management with this week’s appointment of Metropolitan Filmexport Director Victor Hadida as president.

Hadida’s predecessor, Marin Karmitz (MK2), has decided to step down after five years at the helm of the Federation, having previously resigned as director at MK2 to hand over the reins to his son, Nathanaël (see news).

by Fabián Bielinsky (who passed away yesterday) and Good Night, and Good Luck by George Clooney. He also participated in the financing of several films, including Nirvana by Gabriele Salvatores.

Co-director of the distribution outfit Metropolitan FilmExport with his brother Samuel, Hadida’s recent successes include the French release of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Metropolitan is ranked ninth in a 2005 listing of French distributors, boasting 7.5m admissions (4.32% of market share) for 25 features released.

Among the priorities at the start of his term as head of the FNDF, an association made up of 73 companies, Hadida emphasised the importance of the Canal +/TPS merger for the French film industry. On the agenda is the continued work on the Leclerc Project, headed by Véronique Cayla, director general of the CNC, which aims to mediate relations between exhibition and distribution linked to problems with film release bottlenecking and shorter theatrical runs.
