Boorman’s The Tiger’s Tale sold to Diaphana

John Boorman’s new thriller, The Tiger’s Tale, currently wrapping up shooting in Ireland, has been sold by London-based sales company Moviehouse Entertainment to Diaphana in France. Moviehouse’s Managing Director Gary Phillips previously sealed a UK/Ireland distribution deal with Buena Vista International.

The film – which reunites Boorman with his lead actor from The General, Brendan Gleeson – is based on an original script by the director, in which a successful businessman is stalked by a murderous look-alike. Other cast members include Kim Cattrall, Ciarán Hinds and Ruth McCabe.

Produced by Boorman and Kieran Corrigan’s Merlin Films, with co-financing from the Irish Film Board and the UK Film Council, the film should be ready for a high profile festival platform in early September. “It’s really exciting for us to have The Tiger’s Tale in our Cannes line-up”, said Phillips, who established a friendly relationship with Merlin Films in 1998 when he handled sales on The General for the now extinct J&M Entertainment.

Moviehouse Entertainment, which was launched almost five years ago by experienced sales executive Phillips with financier Mark Vennis, is also selling another Irish film starring Brendan Gleeson: Studs [+see also:

. The feel-good football comedy film written and directed by theatre director Paul Mercier had its world premiere at the Dublin Film Festival last February and was released in Ireland last March by Buena Vista International.
