Three features and four shorts unveiled

Finland is well represented this year at Cannes with Lights in the Dusk [+see also:

by the country’s most established film ambassador, Aki Kaurismäki, screening in official competition on Monday, May 22. The film, produced by Kaurismäki’s Sputnik Oy, has already been sold to over 13 territories by The Match Factory.

Two other Finnish feature films are going to screen at the market (The Prince of Soap and Revolution), three short films in Cinema Garbo on the Scandinavian terrace (Zoo by Salla Tykkä, Hedgehog Thing by Esa Illi and 365 Days-Video Diary by Reijo Kela 1999, and another short as part of the Cinefondation, The Elastic Barber by Milla Nybondas.

The Prince of Soap, directed by Janne Kuusi and produced by this year’s Finnish Producer On the Move Aleksi Bardy (see interview) for his company Helsinki-Filmi Oy, is a fictional feature about a soap opera writer who writes a romance for herself and the show’s star. Revolution by Jouko Aaltonen is a documentary musical about the 70s generation’s fight for a better world, produced by Illume Oy. Both features will be offered by the Finnish Film Foundation, which will be on the Scandinavian Terrace, 55 La Croisette, 1st floor.
