Documentary in all it forms at Visions du Réel
Starting next week, Nyon will welcome to the banks of Lake Geneva the Visions du Réel International film festival (April 24-30).
As is the case for its Doc Outlook market, Visions du Réel is now financed by the MEDIA programme, which Switzerland joined on April 1. The festival will open it’s twelfth edition with a screening of Tailor-made Dreams by Marco Wilms, a German title among the 20 films in international competition.
European documentary filmmaking is well-represented, with The Kick by Andres Veiel and Mein Freund der Mörder by Peter Fleischmann (Germany), How Many Roads by Jos de Putter (Netherlands), Along the Road Little Child by Susanna Helke and Virpi Suutari (Finland/Denmark), Un été silencieux by Stéphane Breton (France) and L’image à parole by Michel Favre (Switzerland).
With 160 documentaries from 38 countries to be screened, the event is divided among several forms of the genre, with new sections (Fictions du réel, Tendances, Investigations, etc.) and diverse special events, such as a homage to the renowned Swiss documentary filmmaker Jacqueline Veuve, Thai films on the aftermath of the tsunami, and films with a narrative told in the first person from Swiss and Japanese filmmakers (All about me?). Also on the programme are shorts by Vittorio De Seta on the world of work.
Along with its two workshops, this year devoted to Rithy Panh and Avi Mograbi, the festival is also offering an encounter with Atom Egoyan, who will present his latest film (Citadel), and a screening of Alain Cavalier’s Filmeur [+see also:
