12 European productions on the bill

The United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Rumania and of course France: 12 European productions set out today in the French theatres, relegating to second place the four American films also newly released. Top of the list is Madame Henderson presents (read article) by British Stephen Frears interpreted by Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins. The film, distributed by Pathé with a total of 84 copies, received two nominations for the Golden Globes 2006. Another production from across the Channel is also on the menu, the documentary George Michael: a different story by Southan Morris, released with 10 copies by Pretty Pictures.

The most important release this Wednesday is undoubtedly Je vous trouve très beau ("I find you very beautiful"), a Gaumont production directed by Isabelle Mergault with Michel Blanc and Medeea Marinescu in the principal roles (Gaumont Columbia TriStar - 306 prints). But French cinema can count also on Müetter by Dominique Lienhard with Stanislas Merhar, Sophie Quinton and Aurélien Recoing, a production from Butterfly, distributed with 10 prints by Eurozoom. It will be interesting to see how Animal does, the first feature by screenwriter Roselyne Bosch, a highly anticipated film shot in English and produced by Legende, in co-production notably with the Portuguese company Animatografo (a release on 44 prints by Mars Distribution). Other French newcomers : two documentaries Le plafond de verre, les défricheurs by Yamina Benguigui (Ciné Classic – 18 prints) and Oliva Oliva by Peter Hoffmann (Les Films Sauvages - 5 prints).
