Le Passager triumphs at Belfort

Double victory for the first feature from French actor Eric Caravaca at the 20th edition of the festival Entre Vues at Belfort, shop-window for first and second films. Already noticed at the Critics’ week at the Mostra 2005 (read critique), Le Passager [+see also:

this week-end won the public prize and the grand prize for a French work of fiction. Produced by Diaphana who will also distribute from the 1st February 2006 on French screens, Eric Caravaca’s first feature had a budget of 1,27 million euros, including 420 000 euros of Advance on Receipts National Film Centre (CNC), 450 000 euros from Arte France Cinéma and aid from the Paca region. International sales are handled by Celluloïd Dreams.

As for foreign features, the Grand Prix was awarded to Snow by Canadian Hakan Sahin and a special mention from the jury was given to the Irish film Pavee Lackeen [+see also:

by Perry Ogden, a first feature which was highly appreciated at the Venice Mostra (see compte-rendu) and which was shot on mini–DV (readinterview). Note, too, the acting prize won by Portuguese Ana Cristina de Olivieira for her performance in Odete [+see also:

by João Pedro Rodrigues, a film that was screened at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes (see critique) and which will be released in French screens on the 11th January 2006 (Pierre Grise Distribution). Also, the aid for distribution prize was won by the French-Lebanese co-production A Perfect Day by Joanna Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige (Fipresci Prize at Locarno –read critique) which will be distributed from the 1st March 2006 in French theatres by Celluloïd Dreams. Finally, the feature documentary prize was won by Winterkinder by German Jens Schanze.
