Other than five films from the USA, the Dutch screens welcome this week a national production. TV director, Simone van Dusserldorp got behind the film camera for Diep (Deep) which comes out today, distributed by 1 More Film. Produced by IJswater Films and adapted from the book by Hendrickje Spoor, "Het leven bestaat niet" (Life does not exist), Diep tells the story of an adolescent at the end of 70s who discovers love, sexuality and friendship while her parents divorce. In the main role, Melody Klaver makes her screen debut alongside Monic Hendrickx, who has already won three Golden Calves for Best Actress (De Poolse bruid by Karim Traïdia in 1998, Nynke by Pieter Verhoeff in 2001 and Het Zuiden by Martin Koolhoven last year).

European release of the week is the Greek co-production from Ideefixe with French Silkroad and Arte France Cinéma and Germans Flying Moon Productions, Waiting For The Clouds [+see also:

by Yesim UStaoglu, is distributed by Cinemien. Adapted partly from the book by Yorgios Andreadis, "Tamama", is based on extensive documentary research, Waiting For The Clouds is a sort of docu-fiction, of the terrible history of the Kurds in Turkey. After Journey to the Sun in 1999, the Turkish director screened his film in the Panorama at the last Berlinale where it was sold by Celluloïd Dreams.
