A Renart animated with colour and ambition

But they might soon since the national selection Commission has decided to present Renart the Fox by Thierry Schiel, an animated feature, as the Luxembourg representative in the run-in for the Oscars in the category "Best foreign language film award".

Dating from the middle ages, Renart the Fox belongs to the cultural heritage of numerous European countries. Comic epic in which the heroes are all irreverent animals, it is made up of numerous texts through the centuries which probably come from oral tales or the inspiration of several writers. Thierry Schiel, his second animated film, already took on a literary myth when he animated, Tristan and Isolde in 2002.

Produced by Oniria Pictures, the Luxembourg company headed by Sophia Kolokouri and and the director himself, Renart the Fox was written by Thierry Schiel, who also took charge of artistic direction. Released on the 12th of August in the Luxembourg cinemas and in the same week in Belgium, Renart is still in the headlines, after its success at the Anima 2005 Festival in Brussels (winner of the Public Prize) and the Special Jury Prize at FIFEM in Canada this year.
