Mother of Mine candidate

Klaus Härö has for the second time been chosen to represent Finland in the race for Oscar nominations for 2006 as Best Foreign Film with his new film Mother Of Mine. The director’s first feature film Elina was Finland’s Oscar nominee in 2003.
The Finnish jury consisting of film professionals, preferred Mother Of Mine to eight other local feature films: Flowers And Binding, For The Living And The Dead, Frozen Land, Game Over, Harbour Brothers, Homesick, Pelicanman and Shades Of Happiness.

The period film, set in a war-torn Finland in 1943, stars Michael Nyqvist, Maria Lundqvist, Topi Majaniemi, Marjaana Maijala and Esko Salminen. It was produced by MRP - Matila & Rohr Productions and International sales are handled by Nordisk Film International Sales.
The only film representing Finland at the current Toronto International Film Festival, Mother Of Mine will be released domestically through Columbia TriStar/Nordisk Film Distributors on September 30th and in Sweden on November 4th.
The official nominations for the 78th Academy Awards will be announced on January 21, 2006, and the ceremony in Los Angeles will be held on Sunday March 6, 2006.
