Three films selected in Toronto

, Billy O'Brien’s horror film Isolation and Perry Ogden’s naturalistic portrait of a Traveller family, are the three feature films that will represent Ireland at the 30th Toronto International Film Festival which opened last night.

Breakfast On Pluto starring Cillian Murphy, Stephen Rea and Brendan Gleeson, will feature as part of the Masters programme in Toronto, a section presenting the new works by the world’s most established and renowned filmmakers. The film was produced by the Irish Alan Moloney (Parallel Films) with funding from the Irish Film Board (IFB), the Northern Ireland Film & Television Commission, Bank of Ireland and Pathe which kept UK/Irish/French rights to the film and handles international sales for the remaining territories. The film will open in the UK on January 13, 2006.

Isolation starring John Lynch and Essie Davis, will screen as part of the Midnight Madness programme focusing on thrillers and rockumentaries from directors specialising in genre movies. The film was co-produced by the UK’s The Bureau and Blue Orange Films and Ireland’s Element Films with co-funding from the IFB, FilmFour, UK distributor Redbus Film, TV3 in Ireland and sales company Lions Gate.

currently screening at Venice’s Critics Week, will be shown at Toronto’s Discovery Programme showcasing emerging and innovative filmmakers. The film picked up the Best feature film award at the last Galway Film festival in July.
Commenting on Toronto’s selection, James Morris, chairman of the IFB said: «To have three Irish feature films selected for Toronto is a huge achievement for the Irish film industry. It demonstrates both the high quality of talent working in the industry and the growing international audience for Irish film».
