Attention film-lovers: 372 French theatres will participate from Saturday to Monday in the operation 3 euros for all for 3 days organised by the French capital’s mayor in association with National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF). Launched in 2002, the concept helped register 300 000 admissions, energising admissions for the end of the summer and before the traditional autumn release bottle-neck. The week-end should prove profitable for the new releases of Wednesday 17th August, in particular the French trio made up of Zim and Co by Pierre Jolivet distributed with a total of 200 prints Bac Films, La cloche a sonné by Bruno Herbulot (TFM Distribution – 250 prints) et Odessa... Odessa! by Michale Boganim. The double successful Danish release Per Fly (The Bench and Inheritance) with 10 prints from Les Films du Losange should also benefit from three days of low prices.

Dominated largely by American blockbusters, the French box-office has had, for the moment, a mixed summer, with only two weeks, 20th July to 2nd Augus,t registering an increase compared to 2004. But there are exceptions to this low tendency, such as Les poupées russes by Cédric Klapisch which is still running with 283 prints in its 9th week (Mars Distribution ) having accumulated 2,7 million admissions. For its part, La Moustache by Emmanuel Carrère seduced 273 000 spectators in six weeks with138 prints (Pathé Distribution). Finally, it’s worth pointing out the 36 000 admissions in two weeks achieved by L’été où j’ai grandi ("Io non ho paura") by Italian Gabriele Salvatores with a stable total of 37 prints provided by TFM.
