A 'capital' event

Among the 19 films in competition this year at the Ludwigshafen festival (30 June – 10 July), 7 are from Berlin.

Christian Petzold, the author of Die innere Sicherheit (Best German Film 2001 and international critics' prize in Cannes tha same year) will present today Ghosts (Gespenster), to open the event. This drama depicting a mother’s desperate quest for her lost baby girl in Berlin was produced by Schramm Film Koerner + Weber and co-produced by the French company Les Films des Tournelles. Besides Low Profile (Falscher Bekenner), by Christoph Hochhäusler (Heimatfilm) and Sleepers (Schläfer), by Benjamin Heisenberg (Juicy Film), both presented in Cannes, the nominees are mainly fictions: Allein by Thomas Durchschlag (Lichtblick), Edelweiss Pirates ( Edelweisspiraten) by Niko von Glasow (Palladio Film), Let the Cat Out of the Bag (Katze im Sack) a black movie by Florian Schwarz (Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg), No Song for Love (Keine Lieder über Liebe) by Lars Kraume (Film 1), Slight Changes in Temperature and Mind (SommerHundeSöhne), a road movie by Cyril Tuschi (Lala Films), Zeppelin, self-produced by Gordian Maugg, Die Blaue Grenze by Till Franzen (Discofilm), Traffic Affairs (Mitfahren, by Nicolai Albrecht (Opal), Adil geht, by Esther Gronenborn (DOKfilm), as well as Netto by Robert Thalheim (Potsdam Film and TV School) and neun, directed by students from Munich. Love will be in the air with liebeskind by Jeanette Wagner (Beaglefilms) and Liebes Spiel by Britta Sauer (Schmidtz Katze), or a much darker film, Fred Kelemen's Fallen (Glut), a co-production between Germany (Kino Kombat Filmproduction) and Latvia (Screen Vision) on the inner turmoil of a man haunted by the memory of a suicide he could not prevent.
There are only two documentaries presented this year: Durchfahrtsland, by Alexandra Sell (2Pilots) and Horst Buchholz...mein Papa by Christopher Buchholz and Sandra Hacker (Say Cheese).

The five members of the jury will reveal the results on the 10th of July. The main prize is worth 50,000 euros.
