European Short Order to close Galway Film Fleadh

Short Order, the directorial debut of upcoming Irish talent Anthony Byrne starring Emma de Caunes, Vanessa Redgrave, Cosma Shiva Hagen and John Hurt will be premiered on July 10th during the closing night ceremony of the 17th Galway Film Festival, which will kick-start on July 5th.

Short Order in which food is a metaphor for the poetry of life, is an Irish/German/UK co-production between Igloo Films, Peter Stockhaus Filmproduktion and Ipso Facto Films supported by the Irish Film Board, Hamburg Film Fund and Eurimages, with international sales handled by Axiom Films in the UK.
The film will be screened in Galway as part of the New Irish Cinema section, along six other new Irish feature films: Terry Loane’s Mickeby & Me already released in Ireland, Dermot Doyle’s comedy of teenage life in Dublin Hill 16 that just won the ‘Outstanding Achievement in Digital Film Award' in Utah, USA, Perry Ogden’s first feature documentary Pavee Lackeen, Stephen Kane’s Starfish, Stephen Bradley’s zombie comedy Boy Eats Girl and Patrick Kenny’s thriller Winter’s Emd.

The festival programme that will open with Gaby Dellal’s acclaimed UK film On a Clear Day will also include a French Cinema section with classics and six new films, a World Section screening among others Thomas Vinterberg’s Dear Wendy, Manuel Mayol’s feature documentary Switch Off, Yesim Ustaoglu’s Waiting For The Clouds [+see also:

Four highprofile masterclasses will be given between July 7th and 9th by Hollywood top scriptwriter Paul Schrader (Taxi driver), Ireland’s finest Director of Photography Seamus Deasy (The Mightly Celt), Mexican director Luis Mandoki (When a Man Loves A Woman) and the US actors Campbell Scott (Big Night) and Patricia Clarkson (The Station Agent).

Irish film professionals will be invited on July 9th to discuss the ‘role of the Irish Film Board’ and producers with feature films or documentaries in development will be able to pitch their projects to more than 40 film financiers as part of a three-days mini market from July 7-9 co-organised by the Media Programme and the Irish Film Board. Last year, as many as 520 meetings were organised during the Galway Film Fair where 55 Irish and European producers pitched 80 projects to 40 film financiers.
