CANNES 2005 Ireland

Undressing My Mother at Critics Week

by

Ken Wardrop’s short film Undressing My Mother, winner of many international awards including the Best Short Film at the Irish Film & Television Awards 2004 and the Best documentary at the Tampere Film Festival 2005, has been selected to screen as part of the International Critics Week in Cannes.
Undressing My Mother is a poignant short documentary film in which a filmmaker explores his mother’s unique take on her overweight and aging body. The film was produced by the director and Andrew Freeman’s production company Venom Film as part of a graduate film with the National Film School-IADT, and it received completion funding from the Irish Film Board.
“Both Andrew and I are delighted with the positive receptions our short film is receiving at festivals internationally”, said Ken Wardrop. “It is an exciting opportunity to us as we venture from the student film world into the industry. Our screening at Cannes will hopefully help to launch our production company Venom, both nationally and internationally”.

Ken Wardrop and some 200 other Irish delegates will gather at the Irish Pavilion in Cannes to meet with other international film professionals. A joint marketing initiative between the Irish Film Board and the Northern Ireland Film & Television Commission, the Irish Pavilion will organize a number of international networking events including an Australian/New Zealand/Ireland event and a Celtic Reception to celebrate the Irish, Scottish and Welsh in Cannes.
Media Desk and MEDIA Antenna will also coordinate meetings for Irish producers with the MEDIA Development team at the Irish Pavilion on the morning of May 17.
