Two Irish shootings this month

by

Two low budget Irish feature films supported by the Irish Film Board (IFB) have started their shoots this month : the romantic comedy Dead Long Enough starring Michael Sheen (Heartlands) and Angeline Ball (The General) as well as the football comedy Studs with Brendan Gleeson, David Wilmot (Intermission) and Eanna MacLiam (Angela’s Ashes).

Directed by Tommy Collins from a script by Jim Hawes, Dead Long Enough is co-produced by Grand Pictures ( Spin The Bottle ), Green Park Films and Boda Cyf, with co-financing from the IFB, the Northern Ireland Film & Television Commission, the Arts Council of Wales and broadcasters RTE (Ireland) and HTV (Wales). The film will be distributed in Ireland by Eclipse Pictures and international sales are handled by Media Luna.

Adapted from a popular stage play by writer/director Paul Mercier, Studs is produced by Brother Films with co-financing from the IFB and Irish broadcaster TV3. Buena Vista International Ireland will release it locally in cinemas and DVD, and Movie house is in charge of international sales.

"Having two low budget Irish movies go into production at a traditionally quiet time of the year for local production is terrific, and the more pleasing that these films go into production with strong end users commitments from distributors, TV networks and sales agents", said IFB CEO Mark Woods. "Films that are well-developed, universal stories with distinctive local voices will continue to help producers to ensure that this happens so that Irish stories-and the talent behind them-reach audiences at home and abroad".

Other feature films supported by the IFB currently in post-production include Neil Jordan’s Breakfast On Pluto, Billy O’Brien’s Isolation, Stephen Bradley’s Boy Eats Girl, Anthony Byrne’s Short Order and Gillies McKinnon’s Tara Road.
