BERLINALE 2004 France

A huge presence

by

French productions are out in force at the 54th edition of the Berlin Film Festival, which starts tonight and continues until February 15, 2004. A total of 21 French feature film productions or co-productions have been selected to be shown in the various sections of the festival. This German showcase is an excellent opportunity for French cinema to show its diversity and create a buzz on the international sales front. In addition, around 20 French exporters are heading for the European Film Market, which is being held alongside the German Film Festival.

French cinema has representatives on the juries, in the form of Valeria Bruni Tedeschi (official competition) and Catherine Breillat (for the Forum section), and there are 6 French films competing in the various sections: the three productions made by Patrice Leconte, Cédric Kahn and Eric Rohmer and three co-productions, including the new films by Theo Angelopoulos and Stéphane Vuillet. But there are also appearances by already well-known directors, or up-coming talents, featuring names like Jacques-Remy Girerd, Chantal Akerman, Adbel Kechiche, Sébastien Lifshitz, Danièle Dubroux, Raphael Nadjari, Yolande Zauberman and Dominique Cabrera.
