APPOINTMENTS UK

Momentum hires Marchand

by

The independent UK distribution company owned by Alliance Atlantis, Momentum Pictures, has just hired Xavier Marchand to head the company. The French executive will replace David Kosse, who left last October to become the president of international marketing and distribution at Universal Pictures in London.

Marchand himself worked in international distribution for PolyGram Film International, then Universal Pictures International and Warner Bros, before heading Portman Entertainment. Most recently he worked as an independent producer.

When announcing his appointment, the Canadian group said that Marchand’s key objective would be to take Momentum -the eighth most successful distributor in the UK last year- into the European marketplace: “Marchand’s clear mandate is twofold: to spearhead the company’s stated objective of expanding into key European markets like Spain, France and Germany, and to continue to grow the firm’s presence in the UK as one of the market’s most important independent distributors”.

Momentum, which had a 1.3% UK market share in 2003, is known for its mix of art-house and commercial titles. In 2003, the company released Amelie Poulain [+see also:
